THE BITEY CRAB STORY

How Bitey Crab was Born
We were hunting for treasure - well, sea glass and shells.
When you're 2 that's pretty exciting.
What's even more exciting is when an interesting looking shell bites your Grandad!
And so the family story of the "Crab that bit Grandad" was born - and still has the smallest granddaughter in stitches.
A couple of years later and I was looking for a name for my new jewellery and silversmithing business.  Of course, it had to be "Bitey Crab"!
Approaching 60 I knew I needed something to fire my imagination and get me away from my business life  in front of a computer screen.
I tried silversmithing and immediately knew I had found what I was looking for.  And a good excuse to buy more tools...
A couple of years on and I love nothing better than turning thoughts and ideas into tangible, original, wearable pieces of jewellery.
I work mainly in silver - repurposing old and broken cutlery or taking a fresh piece and creating something unique.  Sometimes I'll work in copper or add sea glass, shells, pebbles or gemstones to give another dimension to a piece.
Living in Swansea, near the sea gives me the chance to combine my passion with combing the beach for interesting bits and pieces to incorporate.  My grandkids love helping me - as we've already learnt!  And they're much better at spotting things!
My family have kept me pretty busy with regular "Can you make me...?" or "I'd like something..." requests, but I still manage to produce a range of pieces for others to enjoy, or to work on client commissions.
My inspiration can come from anywhere - the shape of a spoon or fork; sea glass or a shell; a piece of driftwood or the ever-changing patterns on the beach created by the tides. Or just my own fevered imagination...

Just watch out for crabs....

Maybe a silver copy of a child's drawing or loved one's handwriting to display in a frame, wear as a necklace or use as a wedding bouquet embellishment.

Perhaps you just have an idea for a ring, a necklace or a bracelet that you'd like turning into reality.

Or an old silver spoon you want repurposing.

Browse the Commissions page to get some ideas or Contact me to discuss.

Alternatively, how about a necklace or pendant made from an old piece of cutlery - like this one I repurposed from an old, broken pair of sugar nips.  Rest assured you'll never meet someone wearing the same piece. Each is unique - and I hate making the same thing twice!

Maybe that's why I don't do earrings....

Browse the page, visit the Pineta Create Etsy shop to see  what's available right now, or contact me to talk about what you want.

A ring can reflect the wearer's personality.  Maybe you like something understated and elegant, or you prefer big and bold!

Perhaps you'd like to incorporate an unusual gemstone - like the Larimar in this one.

Whatever you choose, it has to fit!  I can make something just for you, to fit your finger, but I also have rings ready to go - some of which can be adjusted.

Don't know your ring size?  Contact me and we'll work it out.

Browse the Rings page to see what can be done, or visit the Etsy shop to check what's on sale there.

Bangles, cuffs and bracelets - all wristwear.  Like rings, they have to fit!

I have a ready made range of pieces for sale in my Etsy shop, made from sugar tongs and other repurposed silver cutlery.

I've got plenty more old cutlery just waiting to be turned into something wearable, or maybe you want something bespoke.

Hallmarking

Everything I sell conforms to UK Hallmarking legislation.  My own hallmark, shown here, is held by Goldsmiths, the London Assay Office.

If a piece is repurposed spoon or other item showing an original hallmark, it will be certified by the Assay Office and a Change of Use certificate issued confirming its provenance.  A copy of this will be provided with the item.

Smaller items weighing less than 7.78g are exempt and these are supplied without hallmarks - which helps to keep the prices down!  Be assured that I never use silver plate - if it's sold as silver, it's silver.
